REGISTRATION

The Society of the Infant Jesus (Singapore) is a private, non-profit and charitable organization. It is registered under Singapore’s Societies Act with the Registry of Societies – Ministry of Home Affairs (Singapore) on 1st February 2008 and is also registered under Singapore’s Charities Act with the Commissioner of Charities – Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (Singapore) on 14th March 2009.

  • Note that even before the official registration of the Society in 2008, its work has already begun since 13th November 2003 when the inaugural public Infant Jesus Novena Adoration(approved by His Grace Rev. Msgr. Nicholas Chia D.D., STL, Archbishop of Singapore 2001-2013) was held at the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Singapore.

 

SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR AND SPIRITUAL INSPIRATION

The Spiritual Director of the Society is Singaporean Discalced Carmelite Friar Rev. Fr. Thomas Lim of the Holy Spirit OCD. The Society also draws spiritual inspirations from Discalced Carmelite Friar Rev. Fr. Anastasio Roggero OCD – Rector of original Shrine of the Infant Jesus at the Church of Our Lady Victorious in Prague, Czech Republic and also the Spiritual Director of the Society of the Infant Jesus Inc in the USA.

 

FUNDING

The Society receives its financial funding from the following sources: 1) Sale of its books and Catholic spirituality materials; 2) Ad hoc and voluntary donations from its members; 3) Ad hoc and voluntary donations from well wishers; 4) Voluntary donations given via the ‘Donate to Our Mission’ gateways in our website – www.InfantJesusSG.org and in our free mobile APP – GAUDETE.

 

MISSION

The Society is dedicated to a three-pronged mission:

  • Prayer – Individual and collective prayers offered to God the Holy Trinity for the intentions and needs of the Catholic Church, the Pope, the world, Singapore and the mission and works of the Society.
  • Catholic Spirituality – Promotion of true Catholic Spirituality as defined and proclaimed by the Pope, his predecessors and the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Works of Mercy – Service to people and institutions in need through charitable acts and initiatives.

The following outlines some of the key areas related to the three-pronged mission that the Society takes on:

 

I.  PRAYER – INDIVIDUAL AND COLLECTIVE

 

Individual Prayers

Daily individual prayer offerings by members of the Society for the intentions and needs of the Catholic Church, the Pope, the world, Singapore and the mission and works of the Society.

The individual daily prayers can be in any form (e.g., Mass, Blessed Sacrament adoration, Novena prayers, Infant Jesus chaplet, Divine Mercy chaplet, Stations of the Cross, Rosary, fasting or abstinence, meditation and contemplation, family prayers, other prayers, etc.)

 

Collective Prayers

Organization and facilitation of collective prayer sessions or events to pray for the intentions and needs of the Catholic Church, the Pope, the world, Singapore and the mission and works of the Society.

The collective prayer sessions of the Society that are open to the public include: 1) Weekly Novena Adoration of the Holy Infant Jesus; 2) Annual Advent 9-Day Novena and Masses in preparation for Christmas; 3) Annual Infant Jesus Feast Day Mass during Christmastide; 4) Annual Lenten Triduum Masses; 5) Annual Carmel Siege of Jericho’s 144 hours of continuous adoration, prayers and meditations; 6) REJOICE – Monthly Eucharistic adoration, prayers and reflections from Scriptures and the Saints.

 

II.  PROMOTION OF CATHOLIC SPIRITUALITY

The following are some of the initiatives the Society takes on in the promotion of Catholic Spirituality:

 

Novena Adoration of the Infant Jesus

Work includes the compilation and update of the Holy Infant Jesus of Prague Novena Adoration book (Imprimatur for 2004 & 2007 editions: His Grace Rev. Msgr. Nicholas Chia D.D., STL, Archbishop of Singapore 2001-2013), the development and implementation of related publicity materials and plans and the organization and facilitation of the weekly Novena sessions.

 

Special Annual Masses and Homilies

Work includes the identification of the Catholic spiritual themes for the Masses, the engagement of priests or bishops to preach special homilies based on the identified themes, the development and implementation of related publicity materials and plans and the organization and facilitation of the various special annual Masses.

  • Annual 9-day Advent Novena Masses in preparation for Christmas
  • Annual Infant Jesus Feast Day Mass
  • Annual 3-day Lenten Triduum Masses
  • Annual Anniversary Mass and celebrations of the inaugural public Infant Jesus Novena in Singapore

 

Carmel’s Siege of Jericho

An annual prayer event comprising 144 hours of continuous Lenten Eucharistic adoration, prayers and reflections from Scriptures and the Saints. Work includes the compilation and update of the special Carmel Siege prayers and reflections book (Imprimi Potest: Rev. Fr. Thomas Lim of the Holy Spirit OCD), the identification of the Catholic spiritual theme for each year, the engagement of priests to preach at the Masses and to deliver talks based on the identified theme, the invitation of other Catholic groups to lead and facilitate some of the sessions, the development and implementation of related publicity materials and plans and the organization, leading and running of the entire event.

 

REJOICE

Monthly or bi-monthly Eucharistic adoration, faith enrichment, prayers, silence and reflections with Scriptures and the Saints to: 1) be still and know that He is God; 2) be refreshed in the joy of the Lord; 3) give thanks to the Lord in everything; 4) deepen one’s friendship with Christ; 5) bring one’s joys and sorrows to the Mercy of the Lord; 6) pray for God’s Mercy on the Church, Singapore and the World; 7) grow in one’s faith journey.

 

Catholic Faith Enrichment and Spiritual Growth

Work includes the identification of topics related to the Catholic Faith to focus on, the engagement of priests or Catholic speakers to speak on the identified topics or the selection of relevant Catholic movies, the development and implementation of related publicity materials and plans and the organization and facilitation of the talks, seminars and/or movies.

 

Catholic Spirituality Printed Resources

Work includes the identification of Catholic Spiritual themes to work on, the conduct of research into the identified themes, the extraction and compilation of the research findings into various printed resources (e.g., books, booklets, calendars, pamphlets, prayer cards, etc.), the development and implementation of related publicity materials and plans, the sale of the printed resources along with the free distribution of the printed resources to religious and charitable institutions. The primary research sources include Scriptures, the lives, writings and teachings of the Saints and official Papal and Church writings and documents.

 

Evangelization 2033

Spiritual preparation (headed by Rev. Fr. Gino Henriques C.Ss.R) for the 2000th anniversary of the Death, Resurrection and Ascension of Our Lord Jesus Christ and of the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Work includes playing a supporting role to help raise awareness of the spiritual preparation through the design, printing and distribution of the Evangelization 2033 brochures, prayer campaigns and cards.

 

Catholic Pilgrimages

Work includes the organization or facilitation of special pilgrimages to commemorate special Holy or Jubilee Years and the Centenaries of Saints.

The website of the Society. Work includes the development and ongoing maintenance, research and update of the website with resources and materials on Catholic Spirituality along with the development and implementation of related publicity materials and plans to promote the Catholic resources in the website to the world.

 

GAUDETE APP

The free mobile APP of the Society. It comprises a continually updated anthology of enlightening Catholic meditations, resources and spiritual insights drawn from Scriptures, the Saints and the tradition and heritage of the Catholic Church to illuminate one’s faith, hope and joy in God’s love and mercy, to accompany and draw one into a deeper friendship and union with God and to engender one’s love for God and neighbour. Work includes the development and ongoing maintenance, research and update of the Catholic themes, resources and materials in the Gaudete App along with the development and implementation of related publicity materials and plans to promote the Catholic spirituality resources and materials in the APP to the world.

 

III.  WORKS OF MERCY

The following are some of the Mercy initiatives the Society takes on to serve people and institutions in need:

 

Catholic Religious and Seminarian Formation Fundraising

Work includes assisting Catholic Religious Orders or Congregations and Seminaries in their fundraising efforts for seminarian formation through the conceptualization, development and implementation of various fundraising vehicles (e.g., raffle tickets, Lenten and Advent donation appeals, sale of Catholic books or articles, etc.).

 

Catholic Mission Work Fundraising

Work includes assisting Catholic Religious Orders or Congregations in their fundraising efforts for their mission work through the conceptualization, development and implementation of various fundraising vehicles (e.g., voluntary love offering collections at special events, Lenten and Advent donation appeals, sale of Catholic books or articles, etc.).

 

Catholic Church Restoration, Conservation and Upkeep Fundraising

Work includes assisting Churches in their fundraising efforts for Church restoration, conservation and upkeep needs through the conceptualization, development and implementation of various fundraising vehicles (e.g., raffle tickets, Lenten and Advent donation appeals, donation of Catholic books for fundraising sale or auctions, etc.).

 

Donations to and Volunteer Work for Charitable Causes

Work includes providing monetary donations, donations in kind and/or volunteer work to various Catholic charitable institutions and causes. The funding sources for the donations include voluntary donations from Society members or well wishes and proceeds from the sale of Catholic books and articles.
